I have a confession to make. I’m a bit of a neat freak. We’re talking full on Danny Tanner-mode. Just ask my colleagues!

Nothing makes me happier than a neat, organized space. At work, it can help to eliminate distractions and allow employees to work more efficiently.

So, what better time than now to indulge in a little spring cleaning? And what better place to start than your public relations and marketing strategy? Here are three ideas you can focus on over the next few weeks to guide you through the clutter:

  1. Refresh Your Master Media List
What PR pro doesn’t dread that bounce-back message when you pitch an awesome story idea? Like any industry, professionals come and go from TV news outlets, newspapers, radio stations, trade publications, you name it! Get ahead of the game. Take a few hours to review your master media list. Scan bios on news outlet websites, journalists’ social media accounts and/or media database platforms to make sure your list is fresh and accurate.
  2. Research New Media Targets
Explore new publications or ones you might have missed. There could be outlets that are a perfect fit for your client or company! Cision and Google are a great place to start your research. New targets can be a great approach, especially if you find yourself pitching the same outlets time and time again.
  3. Stay Current with Evolving Social Media Platforms
You wake up, check your company’s Facebook page and panic because things look different. Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn and other platforms are constantly changing. Set up Google alerts and monitor industry blogs so you are up to speed on the latest features and capabilities.

Little things can lead to big results. Follow these tips and just like Danny Tanner, you too can earn the bragging rights of being a “lean, mean cleaning machine!”
