The holidays are a great time to showcase your creativity, and you don’t have to break the bank or have special skills to do it! These DIY festive button gift tags are easy to make and can be created for as little as $0 with materials you already have around the house.
You can buy blank gift tags online or at any craft store, but if you’re hoping to be sustainable this holiday season, a great idea is to cut your gift tags out of cardboard boxes. If you already have buttons, hot glue and string, using spare cardboard makes for extra sturdy gift tags that cost $0 to create.
- String or twine
- Hot glue gun
- If you’re cutting your tags from cardboard:
- Xacto knife with a fresh blade or box cutter
- Surface to cut on
- Card stock
If you choose to go the cardboard route, start by cutting the gift tags out with an Xacto knife or box cutter. Lay out your button designs on the tags before you break out the hot glue gun. The possibilities are endless — wreaths, trees, ornaments, presents, reindeer, snowmen … anything you can think of! Use a sharpie, cut shapes out of card stock or make accents out of twine to add to your button designs. Once you’re happy, glue down the buttons and let them dry. Attach a string and you’re done!
